Happy Mama šŸ¤ almost like a rebellion against cu Happy Mama šŸ¤ almost like a rebellion against cultural norms and messages.

Rejecting the message that children are a burden and motherhood is merely something to ā€œbarely surviveā€. The message that tells us we need more… more things. More escapes.

It is arrows you’re raising, Mama.

ā€œChildren are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!ā€ -Psalms‬ ‭127:3-5‬ ‭

ā€œSo let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.ā€ -Galatians‬ ‭6:9‬

A year ago I worked through the Declutter Like a M A year ago I worked through the Declutter Like a Mother book and changed the way I approached things and clutter.

During a move and preparing for a new baby, I purged our home significantly in several areas … which as a result has made me feel a sense of freedom from the weight things can bring.

Then Simplicity Parenting entered my world last week & has yet again sparked that fire in to refining (again) a more simple, intentional rhythm to our home.

These two books have inspired an active journey toward less… and more intentional.

I can’t stop talking about this book… & the way the philosophies of both books have influenced my role as a wife + mother…
here are some quotes…

ā€œAs parents we also define ourselves by what we bring our attention and presence to. This is easy to forget when daily life feels more like triage. By eliminating some of the clutter in our lives we can concentrate on what we really value, not just what we're buried under, or deluged with.ā€

ā€œWith simplification we can bring an infusion of inspiration to our daily lives; set a tone that honors our families' needs before the world's demands. Allow our hopes for our children to outweigh our fears. Realign our lives with our dreams for our family, and our hopes for what childhood could and should be.ā€

ā€œSimplification establishes an unspoken emphasis on relationship.ā€

ā€œChildhood is also an all-important environment, with its own systems, its own natural processes. And society is poking quite a few holes in the protective filter that should surround childhood to buffer it from adult life and concerns.ā€

ā€œPlease don’t kick me in the throatā€ I found ā€œPlease don’t kick me in the throatā€ I found myself
Asking as the 4 year old whipped his legs around on the couch.
-
In frustration, I stood up from the couch and my eyes landed on that newest poster secured to the bar top.

JOY

I felt anything but joy in that moment, but recognized it’s divine placement.

Our recent dive in to Galatians 5:22-23 has been just as much for me as it has been for him.

Love
Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self-control

All which don’t come easy to me… especially in times of being whipped around in the waves of motherhood… but the recent focus on the verse, the focus on those ā€œfruitsā€ā€¦ has really helped change the way motherhood and I dance together through life.

Joy… isn’t exactly the word I would have settled on when the tiny child’s foot landed on me… but it seems as if the daily mediation on such good things helped in that moment.

Realizing… our morning focus wasn’t just about starting directing the sails of his day, but the sails of my own.

I pray every day that I don’t look back in 20 years and regret time I wasted ā€œwishing awayā€ these years. It doesn’t take much to realize they go too fast. It’s almost as if the delivery of focusing on these 9 character traits is right on time to answer a prayer.
Lavender syrup - oh one of my favorite indulgences Lavender syrup - oh one of my favorite indulgences! Lavender syrup transforms coffee in to a lavender latte, just like that hip coffee shop you know. Lavender syrup in frosting and tea, gives a subtle sweetness and floral flavor.

If I’m honest, sometimes this guy runs me square If I’m honest, sometimes this guy runs me square in to the ground… in a puddle of tears.

At his very core he is a leader… I wouldn’t say bossy… he just takes the risk to see how far he can get. All šŸ‘ the šŸ‘ time.

& though the skill he has that makes him a master negotiator and fighter is admirable… (wow, Buddy, you’re so persistent!!)
it can also be exhausting to constantly be the one he practices his God given talents on.

It was @seekwhollyliving who reminded me that one day our world truly will need leaders with tenacity and grit, instead of leaders with passive emotional qualities.

And while I’m no stranger to consuming the latest parenting podcast or book in an effort to catch that 🌟🌟 one useful tip to communicating with your leader child effectively🌟🌟 … the other night I sat down to gather some Truth to tuck in my heart for this season {and beyond}

šŸ¤šŸ¤My contribution to the Kingdom is the ā€œsomeoneā€ I’ll raise… but that is also the me that I raise + grow along the way… :::

The world is full of things over which we have no control over including the purposes of God. Always gazing on the uncertain future with restricts us from beginning or completing useful work.

There is no virtue in wishful wondering, but there is hope for those who get begin & do their work.

Start the garden.
Write the letter.
Grow that moldy flour everyone calls sourdough starter šŸ™ƒ.
Read The Word to your little ones.

Implementing rest šŸ“– God has put it on my heart Implementing rest šŸ“– God has put it on my heart to slow our home down in an effort to rest. Slowly we’ve incorporated an afternoon quiet time, usually when baby brother is asleep.

I started first with a 15 minute timer. A timer that starts after we’ve both settled in comfortably with books or something quiet.

Every couple days we’ve increased our timer 5 minutes or so.

Our home becomes still.

ā€œhow to create a home that nourishes, nurtures, and sustains life and beauty. It is all about how to order your living space and what happens there to embody the joy and beauty of God’s own Spiritā€. -Sally Clarkson

Psalm 46:10 ā€œBe still, and know that I am Godā€
