Let’s Celebrate the Holidays!

The holidays are among us that’s for sure. A couple days ago Christmas music started playing on the radio and I made the executive decision to put our Christmas tree up 6 weeks before the big jolly man comes to town.

There is something about the holidays that just gets me in such a warm and cozy mood. I know I am no different than MOST Americans.

Usually I love to drink holiday spiced sangria and sip on eggnog with a dash of rum. This year however the good man upstairs has blessed me with a pregnancy and a baby due early February. Needless to say I will be skipping the spiced sangria this year.

A Holiday Immune Boosting Hot Toddy

One of my main focuses this winter season has been and will continue to be boosting my immune system naturally. Being pregnant and caring for another little human most certainly has me wanting to do everything I possibly can from getting sick. Finding natural remedies and holistic approaches to immune system boosting hasn’t been THAT hard, it just takes a little effort.

The other day I shared my recipe for elderberry syrup gummies which I am using to keep my immune system thriving this winter season. The gummies use elderberries and tart cherry juice as a natural source of vitamin c to boost the immune system. Both elderberries and tart cherry juice are also great anti-inflammatories.

On a mission to use the rest of my tart cherry juice, I stumbled across a recipe I had to try for a non-alcoholic hot toddy that was perfect for this holiday season. Not to mention, some of the ingredients are natural things that can be used to boost the immune system. So if you are avoiding getting a cold this season (we all are) or if you have come down with a little sinus cold, this drink is for you.

Let’s Drink to Immunity!

This recipe includes some of the most potent immune boosting ingredients! You will not be let down by how powerful this drink is. Here are the benefits of each of the ingredients in this hot toddy –

Fresh Ginger

Ginger is a natural inflammatory and boosts the immune system. It is believed that because ginger naturally warms the body, it can breakdown and remove toxins in the lymphatic system. Ginger also has naturally occurring anti-bacterial properties to fight off bacteria. Ginger is also a key ingredient in my immune boosting fire cider recipe!

Tart Cherry Juice

Cherries are a natural anti-inflammatory, high in antioxidants, and vitamin C. A recent study showed that cherries were actually a better anti-inflammatory than aspirin.

I drink a glass of tart cherry juice every night before bed to help me fall asleep and keep my immune system strong! I buy my organic tart cherry juice concentrate here. I have a gift card code that will save you $50 on your first order, too! Enter ANNAP at checkout to save on your order!

Cinnamon might just be one of the most powerful spices! Cinnamon has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, immunity-boosting, and cancer preventing abilities. Because cinnamon is a natural anti-microbial and natural anti-biotic, it can boost immunity and protect against harmful bacteria.

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

Raw apple cider vinegar is one of those things that I wonder what it CAN’T do. I use apple cider vinegar to clean and disinfect my home because it is a natural anti-bacterial. I also use to remedy my pregnancy heartburn. More importantly, we use apple cider vinegar daily in our home to combat allergies because it helps support lymphatic drainage.

Whenever I feel congested or a cold coming on, apple cider vinegar is my first go to because it is loaded with vitamins, probiotics, and anti-bacterial properties. I use fire cider during cold and flu season to give my immune system an extra jolt!

Raw Local Honey

Honey is known for it’s anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It is so effective, it is suggested that when you are sick you take a teaspoon of raw honey to fight off bacteria. Consuming local honey also has benefits of reducing allergy symptoms. Honey can slow the growth of cold and flu causing bacteria and fungus.
